Awesome Drone Photos of Frozen Eastern Shore Waterways

The recent polar vortex that gripped much of the East Coast in bitter cold, blanketed the Eastern Shore in frost and froze over much of the Shore's waterways. Despite plunging temperatures and winds that cut to the bone, the surrounding landscape provided for excellent photography. Photographers--armed with either dslr's, smartphones, or drones--were greeted by breathtaking scenery, proving the Eastern Shore--unlike many places--retains its beauty all year round.

Being an aerial photography company, we strove to capture the transformed Eastern Shore landscape from an aerial perspective, focusing on capturing aerials of sights we seldom see today--our waterways almost completely frozen over. With our home base located in Chestertown, we captured stunning aerial photography of the Chester and Corsica Rivers and reached out to fellow drone operators in Dorchester County and Kent Island to provide additional imagery to showcase the Shore's frozen waterways,

In true Maryland fashion, the polar vortex/bomb cyclone was quickly replaced by 60-degree weather. To see what happens when frigid water meets much warmer air, check out a drone video at the bottom of the post titled "Chester River: Fog and Ice.

We are grateful for Bill Whaley and Wye River Marine, Inc for sharing their drone photography.

As the temperature quickly--and very suddenly--warmed, residents of the Shore were greeted by a site even more captivating (and somewhat eerie), heavy fog in the middle of winter. Check out the video below to see what the Chester River looked like when the ice began to melt.

Have an interesting site you think would look great to capture from the air, let us know.
